I’m really excited to announce that I will be selling at Block Party Handmade Boutique!  It’s my first time showcasing my new line of items for children including skirts, dresses, headbands, toys and more!  Everything is re-purposed and vintage so you can feel great shopping from me because you’ll be ‘going green!’

Floyd Street Stock Exchange

In January, I found a link on my Facebook newsfeed about an auction in Louisville and it caught my eye. Mostly because there was a mannequin for sale and I’ve been trying to get my hands on one for years. My husband and I decided to attend just to see what it was all about and it turned out to be one the funnest date nights we’ve ever had!

The Floyd Street Stock Exchange is a monthly auction held on the first Thursday of every month. Started in the winter of 2012, the auction continues to grow in popularity and is a great resource for anything vintage or design. You can find anything from architectural salvage to curiosities and home accessories. The auction is hosted by Blue Ocean Traders, a trade only wholesale source company specializing in antiques and reproductions.

purple trunkThe auction reminded me of the TV show American Pickers.  Large antique metal signs lined one wall while mid-century furniture lay around the room. I spied a set of antique medicinal bottles as well as vintage artwork. There was even a gold leafed Victorian couch with velvet seats. The auction had hundreds of items for sale. A loud boisterous man called out the items so fast it was hard to understand what he was saying at first. Once the auction got started things began moving quickly and it took us awhile to figure out what was going on. Everyone was so friendly though and helped us learn the rules and etiquette.

My husband and I went for the mannequin which we purchased but also came home with three trunks (pictured here), an ottoman, pillows, and a door knocker. We got a great deal on all of our items! I saw the exact same trunk that I purchased for $25 in a store priced at $300.

The auctions begin with a preview and registration at 5PM and last for hours. Everything in the room is up for grabs and there’s even free beer, wine and snacks. The auction lasts for hours and some of the best deals are had at the very end.

Located on Preston Highway and the Portland Neighborhood (22nd Street) these stores offer 25% off every Monday and if you sign up for a free VIP card you get 25% off every Thursday! I always find something amazing when I shop there. Always. Last week, my mom and I went and found a five-piece vintage glass set for only $6!

Buttons, Bows and Britches

Fly Away Fox items can now be found at Buttons, Bows and Britches in Louisville! This lovely children’s consignment store is located at the corner of Frankfort Avenue and Cannons Lane in the Crescent Hill Neighborhood.

I will be selling beautiful handmade items for little girls. I have a variety of headbands and hair clips on display and my signature aprons as well.  The little red apron has pockets in the front with a cherry patterned fabric. The other apron is one of my favorites. The fabric features two little children hugging. They look like Japanese anime characters dressed in vintage clothes.  Fly Away Fox aprons are all one-of-a-kind and made with vintage and re-purposed material and each one comes with a removable brooch.

All of my headbands are made with vintage and re-purposed material and my hair clips are all made with eco-felt. I have felt flower clips, felt peacock feather clips and a variety of headbands in all colors.

Buttons, Bows, and Britches is located at 111 Cannons Lane.  They are open Monday-Friday 10AM-6PM.

New Artwork

I’ve started making unique handmade fabric wall hangings with my fabulous collection of vintage material.

This piece is made using barnwood frames I thrifted and vintage artwork with felt and fabric.

This piece is made using old wooden signs that I covered with fabric and felt flowers. The pattern reminds me of Bert Cooper’s office in Mad Men.

This piece is a recreation of a garden. I made fabric flowers and included a garden spider in its web similar to one that I had in my garden last year.

These children prints are from the 1890s. I saved them from an old book that I re-purposed into a journal because it was falling apart.

These children magazines are in great condition and include poems, stories, activities, songs and more!

Grandma’s House

Lately my Grandma has started giving me and my sister vintage goodies every time we visit.  Most of the items no one else appreciates so it’s great for us! The other day we hit the jackpot! I received a vintage teapot my Grandmother’s friend made in 1957, a milk glass pitcher, a vintage plate another one of my Grandmother’s friends made, and a vintage French glass canister.

The plate is a mosaic with ceramic leaves. Both it and the teapot have gold accents (the plate is gold underneath and the teapot has a gold handle)

 

The French canister has “Le Parfait” engraved in the glass and the pitcher has images of grapes and fruit. The milk glass belonged to my great-grandmother.
